Questions, corrections, story notes
Licensed stock, chosen for its plainness rather than its subject: open country, standing in for nowhere in particular. It is not a record of a particular trip, route or operator, and it makes no claim about the weather on any day you might travel. Park closures, access roads, ferry seasons and small-town services turn over on much the same short cycle, so treat every page here as a description of a pattern rather than a fixed fact about the week you travel.

Trips and Tours is an independent travel journal about Australia and the trips Australians take. Everything published here is editorial writing — guidance, context and judgement, written to help you decide where to go and plan it yourself.
Nothing on this site is a booking, a contract, or professional advice of any kind. These terms set that out plainly, explain why current conditions always have to be checked against official sources, and describe what we ask of readers who quote, link to or reuse the work.
Using the site means working within these terms. If you would rather not, the remedy is simple: don’t rely on what you read here.
SCOPE
What these terms cover
They apply to every page on this website: the regional and topic guides, the journal entries, the reader questions, the index pages that gather them, and the single enquiry form. They apply whether you arrive at the home page or land straight on a guide from a search result.
They cover reading, quoting, linking and reuse. They do not cover anything a third party does with our writing after we have published it, and they do not extend to the websites of parks, operators, transport providers or government agencies that we link to — those places set their own terms and their information takes precedence over ours.

Written in ordinary English on purpose. If a clause here is unclear, say so through the enquiry form and we will rewrite it rather than defend it.
CLAUSES 01 – 02
What the writing is, and what it is not
Two clauses carry the whole basis of the site: everything published here is editorial writing, and nothing is sold, held or arranged through it.
CLAUSE 01
Editorial guidance, not advice
The guides are general writing for a general reader. They are not professional advice, and they must not be used in place of it.
Heat, water, distance, fire, wildlife and remote roads carry real risk in Australia. Whether to drive a stretch, swim a beach, enter a park or keep going in worsening conditions is your decision, taken on current official warnings rather than on a page written months earlier.
The budgeting writing describes where travel money tends to go, in proportions and trade-offs; it carries no figures and no recommendations, and it is not financial advice. We do not assess anyone’s circumstances, insurance, visas, health, vehicle or fitness for a route, so nothing here stands in for an agent, a doctor, a mechanic or a lawyer. Where a subject touches those fields, ask someone qualified in it.
No page is tailored to a particular reader, party, vehicle or date, and none should be read as though it were.
CLAUSE 02
No bookings, contracts or trip services
Nothing is sold, reserved or arranged through this site. There are no departures, no dates to hold, no prices, no availability and no payment of any kind.
Trips and Tours does not act for you, and it does not act for any operator, park, accommodation provider or transport company named in the writing. Describing a road, a region, a service type or a way of travelling is editorial description — not an endorsement of a particular business, and not an offer.
Writing to us through Contact and Enquiries starts a conversation about the writing and nothing else. It commits neither side to anything and secures no place, date or service. Messages are stored privately inside this site’s own WordPress installation, are not passed to external marketing platforms, and involve no payment service at any point.
A road looks the same in every season; the closure notice does not. Graded, open and untroubled on the morning a picture is taken, an unsealed road can be shut by the responsible authority days later after rain, and no sentence written months in advance keeps up with that. The photograph is licensed stock, not a road we drove.
CLAUSE 03
Conditions change — verify before you go
Our writing aims to be accurate at the time it is written and reviewed. It cannot be accurate about the specific day you travel, and it is not maintained as a live information service.
Roads and access. Unsealed roads close after rain and reopen when they dry. Permits, seasonal restrictions and park closures are set by Traditional Owners, land councils and park authorities, and they change without notice. Their current position is the one that counts.
Seasons and weather. Everything we publish about timing describes long-run patterns — daylight, heat, crowds, school-holiday pressure. A pattern is not a forecast, and it is not a promise about your particular week.
Services and opening hours. Fuel stops, visitor centres, ferries, campgrounds and tour operators change hours, seasons and ownership. Confirm anything your plan depends on directly with the provider or the responsible authority.
If you find something here that no longer matches the ground, tell us through the enquiry form and point at the sentence. Corrections are the fastest way this site improves.
CLAUSES 04 – 06
Ownership, quoting and fair use of the site
We would rather be quoted than protected. These three clauses exist to keep the line clear between reading and lifting.
Standing for a subject rather than a trip we took: an alpine frame licensed from a stock library and used here under exactly the terms these clauses describe — ours to publish, not ours to give away.
CLAUSE 04
Ownership of text and images
The words, headings, section structure and editorial judgements on this site belong to Trips and Tours. Photographs are used under licence from the stock libraries they come from; they are not ours to give away, and a photograph appearing on a page here does not make it free for you to take. Photographs illustrate a subject or a mood — they are not records of a particular trip, route or operator unless the caption says so.
CLAUSE 05
Quoting, linking and reuse
Quote a short passage in a forum post, a class handout, a newsletter or an article, name Trips and Tours and link to the page it came from — that is welcome and needs no permission. Link to any page you like, including deep links to individual guides and journal entries.
What is not permitted: republishing a page or a substantial part of one, translating it, rewriting it lightly and presenting it as original, or bundling the guides into a mirror, aggregator or dataset without permission. Do not present our writing inside a frame or template that suggests someone else produced it. For anything larger than a quotation, ask first through the enquiry form.
CLAUSE 06
Acceptable use of the site
Read it, search it, share it. Do not attempt to interfere with how it runs: no probing for weaknesses, no automated harvesting at a volume that degrades the site for other readers, no attempt to gain access to anything not published.
The enquiry form is for genuine reader questions, corrections, topic suggestions and editorial or partnership contact. It is not a channel for bulk messages, mailing-list sign-ups, link-selling or abusive content. Messages of that kind are deleted unanswered, and persistent abusive traffic may be blocked.
CLAUSE 07
Limits of liability
The site is published as it stands. We write carefully and correct what we learn is wrong, but we do not warrant that every page is complete, current or free of error, and we do not warrant that the site will always be available or uninterrupted.
Decisions you take after reading — a route, a month, a distance, a swim, a budget, a bag — are yours, made on your own assessment of current conditions and your own capabilities. To the extent the law allows, Trips and Tours is not liable for loss, cost, injury or disappointment arising from reliance on general editorial guidance published here.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
LINKS OFF THIS SITE
We link out to park authorities, transport providers, weather and warning services, and to operators and communities worth knowing about. Those sites are not under our control.
A link means we thought a reader would want to see the page. It is not a warranty about that organisation, its content, its availability or its own terms and privacy practices — read theirs where it matters, especially before you pay anyone anything.
CLAUSE 08
Updates to these terms
The journal grows: new regions, new topics, occasionally a new way of presenting them. When that changes what needs to be said here, this page is rewritten rather than patched, and the version you are reading is the one that applies to your use of the site today.
There is no archive of earlier wording and no notification list. If a clause matters to how you use or cite the work — a school, a library, a newsletter, another publication — read this page again before you rely on it, and write to us if the answer you need isn’t in it.
For questions, corrections or permission requests, use Contact and Enquiries. A terms or permission question needs nothing more than your name, an email address and the message itself: the name is what the reply is addressed to, the email address is where it goes, and the message is where you name the clause and say what you want to do with the work. Subject, phone, location, budget band and timeframe are there for enquiries that need them — a permission request rarely does.
